The three newly elected members of the City Council have been sworn in.

Ruling PNC candidates secured the vacant three seats in the Malé city council and one seat in the Kulhudhuffushi city council during the by-election held on July 20.

The swearing-in ceremony was held today at the Meerumaa Event Hall. Drug Court Judge Mohammed Sameer administered the oath of office to all three members.

The three members sworn in today are Fathimath Shaufa for Henveiru West, Fathimath Ishan Ali for Macchangoalhi Central and Ali Aiman for Hulhumalé.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mayor Adam Azim said the satisfaction of those elected to office is the satisfaction of feeling that there are many people who believe in their abilities and integrity.

"This requires us to work hard to maintain this ability and integrity. A person who is appointed to a position under the discretion of a leader, cannot feel this. Therefore, I sincerely remind all those who took oath today to work to give real color to the people's aspirations," he said.

Azim also asked the three members to work together to identify the needs and difficulties of the constituents and bring them to the city council for discussion and solutions.
