The national airline, Maldivian has suspended flights to Dhaka, Bangladesh amid the escalating unrest in the country.
Maldivian Airlines said in a post on social media today that the flights were suspended due to the ongoing political unrest in Bangladesh. However, they added that the situation in the country is being closely monitored.
A Maldivian official told One Online today that it is difficult to comment on the scheduling of flights to Dhaka due to the current situation.
They further added that the airline has always given top priority to the safety and security of its crew and passengers. The airline is requesting passengers to call 1671 for further information and assistance.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has resigned and fled the country after students intensified protests last month over the recruitment process.
Hasina's resignation ended protests yesterday and the military has decided to form an interim government while she seeks safe passage to a third country through India.
