Committee approves appointment of Habib as HRCM member

Maldives Parliament today approved the appointment of Ismail Habib Abdul Rahim to the Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM).

Habib was previously a member of the Election Commission (EC) and its Vice-President. However, he resigned from the commission in March after serving two five-year terms.

President Mohamed Muizzu submitted his name, along with the other applicants to the vacant position on the 15th of this month for approval.

However, the committee passed Habib’s name and only Habib’s name will be asked for a vote in the Parliament when the committee’s decision is sent for approval.
