Maldivian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has revealed that Bangladesh has made it easier for Maldivian students to go out and work during curfew hours, easing restrictions on them.
The Foreign Ministry said in a statement yesterday that the Maldivian High Commission in Bangladesh is closely monitoring the situation of Maldivians living and traveling to the country.
There are 75 students in Chittagong, seven in Dhaka, and one in Comilla. The High Commissioner said the 99 Maldivians who are currently in Bangladesh are in good condition.
"A student at a university in Dhaka has been relocated with the assistance of the High Commission after the dormitory was closed. The High Commission has also facilitated ease of restrictions for students undergoing medical internship at Chittagong Medical College Hospital," the Foreign Ministry said.
The ministry added that two students studying in medical schools in northern Bangladesh requested assistance in crossing the border and the High Commission and the High Commission of Maldives in India have provided assistance in the matter.
The ministry is also working closely with the Bangladesh government to ensure the safety and security of the students.
"As a curfew has been declared in Bangladesh at this time, the Ministry repeatedly urges the public not to go outside as directed by the Bangladesh Government and to follow the instructions of the Bangladesh Government and the Maldivian High Commission in Bangladesh," The Foreign Ministry said.
