Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) and UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) have launched the third course of modern port management in the Maldives.

MPL CEO Mohamed Wajih Ibrahim, Maldives State Shipping (MSS) Managing Director Ahmed Shareef and Deputy Controller of Immigration Ahmed Ashfaq were present at the opening ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Aishath Shimla, Chief Corporate Officer, MPH said that the course is important for building people in the field of maritime ports and all MPL employees will work together to make progress in the field of education and training.

"We should have healthy competition amongst us, specially in pursuing education. I want you to know that you are not alone in this. We are with you in this not as colleagues but as a family that learns and thrives," Shimla said.

The Modern Port Management course is an 18-month course and will be conducted in block mode with a total of 20 participants this year, including mpl employees, MSS and immigration employees.

MPL said the first modules of the course will be taken by Tomaz Kulaga, information systems officer at UNCTAD, and Joe Hyne, director of Bremore Port Company.
