The Education Ministry has revised the policy to allow students with credits in three O'Level subjects to join A'Level in government schools.
At present, government schools require a minimum of 5 credits in O'Level examinations for students to be eligible for A'Levels.
An Education Ministry official told One on Friday that the policy change was made to allow as many students as possible to join A'Levels in government schools.
According to a circular issued by the Ministry to government schools on Thursday, the changes made by the education ministry in the rules for classes 11,12 are as follows:
- A credit in Islam/Dhivehi in SSC examination, with 2 credits in any one stream and an additional credit in any subject
- Minimum 3 credits in O'Level exams
- Students undertaking an Individual Education Plan (IEP) should secure two credits in secondary exams
According to a circular issued by the Education Ministry, the admission to A'Level will be based on the results of SSC, O'Level and BTech examinations of the previous two years and only those students who have not attained the age of 18 years as of December 31 this year will be allowed.
The circular further states that if the school is unable to accommodate all the students who have applied for admission to Grade 11, the school should give admission to as many students as possible based on academic merit.
