Maldives Customs Service has announced plans to bring drones to monitor vehicles entering the maldives border.
Speaking to the Parliament's Committee on Security Services (241), Commissioner General of Customs Yusuf Maniu today said that the Customs do not have adequate facilities to monitor vehicles entering the country's borders, making it difficult to properly monitor the vessels and allowing the import of unlicensed goods into the country.
As part of efforts to resolve these issues, Customs will be bringing in drones from China and United States, Maniu said. He added that Customs will also get an 85-foot vessel from Japan, two from China and 1 from US as well.
Maniu added that the monitoring of vehicles entering the border has been carried out with the help of the MNDF Coast Guard so far. An agreement has been reached to exchange assistance accordingly and if drones are brought in, they will be operated in collaboration with the newly formed Air Corps in MNDF.
