Telecom giant Dhiraagu and Women in Tech Maldives have launched the 'Girls to Code' program Haa Alif Dhidhoo edition.
The program, which teaches coding skills using HTML, CSS and JavaScript, aims to empower girls. The program is for 10 to 13-year-old girls.
The Girls to Code edition will continue till September, with the program's main objective being to increase women's participation in the technology sector. Participants with no coding experience will also learn to code in practice through the program and learn to create simple websites by the end of the program.
Bishara Hameed, Manager, Corporate Social Responsibility, Dhiraagu said that building an inclusive society and empowering women is one of the main objectives of Dhiraagu's CSR program. The aim of the program is to teach girls coding skills and encourage them to increase their self-confidence, he said.
"Our hope is to create a new generation of female leaders and see the full participation of women in the technology industry." Bishara said.
Mariyam Asna Saeed, president of Women in Tech Maldives, said the program will not only teach them how to code, but will also empower women to learn essential digital skills for the 21st century and be more productive and innovative.
The Dhiddhoo edition of the "Girls to Code" program is the fifth in the series. The program has previously been implemented in Fuvahmulah City, Thinadhoo City, Kulhudhuffushi City and Laamu Atoll.
