MWSC's Managing Director Abdul Matheen Mohamed has said that 800 tonnes of water per hour will be transported between Male' and Hulhumale' once the pump station is completed.
Speaking to the media about the progress of the MWSC's water-producing pump station in front of Ameer Ahmed School, Matheen said that in 2016, the government had decided to build a pipeline over the bridge, but due to various reasons, the work could not start as the company could not get the land for the pump station.
He said that the company was able to get land for the construction of the pump station after the current government assumed office and once the pump station is completed, the company will be able to provide clean water for Hulhumale' Phase I and Male' region.
"The pipes had not been connected when the bridge was completed. We are working on connecting the pipes and the construction of the pump station in Hulhumale' is also underway. Once the pump station is ready, we can carry 800 tonnes of water between Male' and Hulhumale' per hour," Matheen said.
Mateen said that the water generation capacity would be increased to 10,000 thousand tonnes in the next one year, adding that the existing water supply would be greatly improved in a year's time.
