MIFCO has decided to suspend fish purchase from boats protesting and intervening in police efforts to mediate the protests and bring Addu Fisheries Complex back to operation.

This decision comes amid ongoing protests over non-payments for fish deliveries.

In a press release today, MIFCO stated that since last Thursday, some boats participating in the protest at the Addu Fisheries Complex have been damaging MIFCO property and hindering employees' access to basic necessities.

The company said it is working with relevant authorities to resolve the issue.

"We note that protesters have entered restricted areas like cold storage, power house buildings, and staff living quarters without authorization, disrupting operations," MIFCO said.

The statement said that while they regret the delay in payments, they are working with the government to secure the needed funds. They stated they accept protests conducted within legal bounds.

However, due to the current protests halting operations and causing financial losses, MIFCO said they are working with relevant authorities to bring the facility back to operational status.
