Mohamed Zaki, who received a national award last year in recognition of over 47 years of public service, has died.

Zaki died early yesterday at the age of 68. His funeral service was held after Zuhr prayer on Monday, Masjid Zaid bin Saabit, located at the Hulhumale’ Cemetery.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu sent a message of condolence to the Zaki’s family, in a post on X on Monday afternoon. In his message, he prayed that Allah bless Zaki eternal blessings in Paradise and grant patience to Zaki's family.

Zaki started his service to the government on 3 March 1973. He first worked as a foreman in the CI Division of the Ministry of Agriculture. He later worked as a peon at the Education Ministry, and the Educational Project Office. He went on to work as a printer, and then senior printer, at the Educational Development Center.

Zaki later served as Senior Printer and Printing Supervisor of the Department of Public Examinations.

He was also responsible for sending the question papers to the centers for the GCE O Level examination conducted by the department, typing the question papers for the Secondary School Certificate Examination and Higher Secondary School Certificate Examinations, printing, collating, editing and packing the papers.

When he retired on October 28, 2020, at the age of 65, Zaki was a Senior Printing Supervisor in the Department of Public Examinations.

He received the National Award for Public Service last year.

A statement issued by the President’s Office regarding the receipt of the award noted that Zaki had a clean record during his decades-long public service, and was never questioned regarding a disciplinary matter, or any issues regarding his work.
