Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid has concluded his official visit to Sri Lanka.
During the visit Minister Shahid paid courtesy calls on the Sri Lankan Prime Minister, Ranil Wikremesinghe, former President and Prime Minister, Mahinda Rajapaksa, and the Minister of Internal Home Affairs, Vajira Abeywardhane and conveyed condolences on behalf of the People and Government of Maldives to the People and Government of Sri Lanka, following the Easter Sunday terror attacks and expressed sympathies to the families of the victims.
Minister Shahid also exchanged views on countering terrorism in the region and reiterated the Maldives’ strong commitment in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism. Additionally, Foreign Minister Shahid highlighted the newly introduced changes to the resident visa regime by the Sri Lankan Government and underscored the need to resolve and ease visa procedures for the mutual benefit of the two countries.
On his visit, Foreign Minister Shahid also met with Former Secretary to Defence, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and the former Speaker, Chamal Rajapakse.
Maldivian Ambassador in Sri Lanka, Omar Abdul Razzak, accompanied Foreign Minister Shahid on this official visit.
