The Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has cautioned against 15 medicines manufactured by a Thai pharmaceutical company 'Seven Stars Pharmaceutical Co Limited' due to the presence of a hazardous chemical substance in an excipient used in their production.
The MFDA stated on Tuesday that the Thai drug regulatory authority has recalled 15 types of medicines from the company and informed the MFDA about this action.
Medicines containing the hazardous chemical:
- Carbosol Syrup
- Startec Syrup
- Parastar Suspension
- Fatec Syrup
- Cetaphen Syrup
- Co-Trimexazole Mixture
- Kressbufen Suspension
- Dompestar Suspension
- Kresstrim Suspension
- Krescolet Syrup
- Kresstec Syrup
- Kressbroxol Syrup
- Startifen Syrup
- Ibustar Suspension
- Domperkress Syrup
"These medicines from Seven Stars Pharmaceutical Co Limited are not included in the list of drugs approved for import and sale in the Maldives. However, since Thailand is a country Maldivians visit for medical treatment, and in some cases, Thai medicines are imported for personal use, we urge caution regarding this matter," MFDA stated.
The MFDA said that as a safety measure, they will conduct thorough inspections at the ports when medicines are imported into the country.
