Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer has requested elderly Maldivians residing in Sri Lanka to be given permanent residency.

Minister Zameer is currently on a three-day official visit to Sri Lanka. During the visit, he met with the Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe on Wednesday. He also met with Sri Lanka's Foreign Minister M.U.M Ali Sabry and discussed ways to strengthen ties between the countries in different sectors. Additionally, Minister Zameer also met with Sri Lankan businessmen, political leaders and the Public Security Minister Tiran Alles on Wednesday as well.

According to a report by Sri Lanka's Daily Mirror, during the meeting with Public Security Minister Tiran Alles, Minister Zameer requested arrangements to be made for elderly Maldivians living in Sri Lanka to obtain permanent residency.

The Daily Mirror also reported that the meeting discussed facilitating easy visa access for Maldivians traveling to Sri Lanka and immigration-related matters.

The meeting mainly focused on immigration-related matters, including visa arrangements, according to the Daily Mirror. The newspaper also mentioned that Minister Zameer praised the recent changes made by Sri Lanka to their visa issuance process.

The Foreign Ministry has not yet disclosed the details of Minister Zameer's meeting with Tiran Alles.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
