Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has said the first batch of Hajj pilgrims sponsored by the state will depart for Hajj pilgrimage on Friday.

In a post on X, Minister Dr. Shaheem said that 50 pilgrims will leave for Hajj as per President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's pledge. The first batch of pilgrims from Maldives departed for Hajj last Friday and the second batch on Monday and the final batch will depart on Friday under Hajj Corporation.

This year, a total of 980 pilgrims from Maldives will perform Hajj pilgrimage.

As per the Administration's policy for the state-sponsored Hajj pilgrimage, the number of pilgrims performing Hajj every year will be determined by the Islamic Minister as per the President's advice.

According to the policy, the expenses incurred for sending those eligible for Hajj will be determined by the state budget or zakat fund or financial assistance provided by well-wishers. The Ministry of Islamic Affairs should provide financial assistance to those who wish to take the pilgrims for free pilgrimage. The funds should be deposited in the relevant fund of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs. it has been stated.

A committee formed under the rules will decide on the course of action if a person selected for the pilgrimage at the expense of the state government is unable to perform the pilgrimage due to any reason.
