Speaker of Parliament and Hithadhoo North MP Mohammed Aslam has said that he will continue to work for reform even if he is not going to be part of the 20th Parliament.

Concluding the last session of the 19th Parliament, Aslam said he would work to promote the rules and principles he had always believed in.

“We will continue our long-standing efforts to ensure human rights and good governance in the Maldives, as well as to establish good rules of democracy in the country,” he said.

Aslam said he was concerned about the dangerous attacks and threats against MPs. However, he hoped that in the future, members would be given the protection they deserve and the opportunity to participate in the parliament without any fear and to continue to perform their duties and responsibilities freely and independently.

Aslam thanked the people of Addu City and the people of his constituency for electing him as a member of the 16th Parliament and the 19th Parliament. Aslam has served four terms in parliament for a total of 20 years.

However, he has lost this parliamentary election.
