Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer has said that there is no intention to expel Indian Army doctors stationed at Senahiya.
Speaking at a press conference at the President's Office today, the Minister notetd that the doctors at Senahiya had been brought to the Maldives around September 10, 2012 at the request of the Maldivian Army. The doctors working at Senahiya are Indian civilians and there are foreigners from many countries working as civilians in the Maldives, he said.
"The President's view is that the government will request Indiaia for their withdrawal if there is anything that could harm the Maldivian independence and sovereignty due to the doctors, and if they are not needed," Zameer said.
He further stressed that the government does not see any need to send the doctors away, noting that they are doctors brought to the Maldives under India's UTF Grant.
At the press conference, Zameer said that as per the agreement now, those stationed in Laamu Kaddhoo and Addu City Gan will reach the expiration of their term in February 2025. In addition to this, those in Haa Dhaalu Hanimaadhoo will reach the expiration of their term in February 2026.
