A total of 51 Indian military personnel have been sent back from two platforms as part of the repatriation process, the Government has said.

The withdrawal of Indian military personnel in the Maldives is one of president Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's most important presidential pledges. The day he took oath of office, President Dr. Muizzu formally requested India to withdraw Indian troops from the Maldives.

Since then, the Maldives and India have held high-level talks on indian military issues, in which the two countries agreed to withdraw Indian troops from The Maldives by March 10. As per the agreement, Indian troops in Addu have been repatriated.

Addressing a press conference at the President's Office, Chief Spokesperson Heena Waleed said the government aims to send Indian troops to the Maldives by May 10.

"All Indian soldiers in the country will leave before May 10. So far, 51 soldiers have left from two platforms. At the same time, we will reveal more information to you once all the soldiers land," he said.

Instead of Indian soldiers in the Maldives, India brings in civilians to carry out these tasks.
