FENAKA Corporation Limited has revealed that Addu City consumes more water than it produces.
In a statement issued today, FENAKA said that due to the increase in the population of Addu City, the proportion of water consumed has increased more than the water produced by the water plant installed in Addu City.
In order to address this, the Ministry of Construction on April 13 handed over a project worth MVR 282 million to MWSC for upgrading Addu's water supply system for a period of one year.
FENAKA said that by the time the project is completed, there will be a permanent solution to the water shortage faced by Addu City and the company is already doing everything necessary to ensure uninterrupted water supply to the people.
The Corporation said its top priority is to ensure that the services provided to the people are delivered in a sustainable, trusted and confident manner.
Fenaka said the reason for the current water crisis in Addu City is that the water supply system has not been repaired adequately in the last five years.
Construction of RO facility building, borehole drilling, two RO plants producing 350 tonnes of drinking water per day, three 1,000-tonne tanks to store water, a brine reject hole and a 75-kilowatt solar PV system will be set up in Hulhumedhoo.
In addition to providing water testing equipment to Hithadhoo and Hulhumeedhoo, four tanks of 1,000 tons will be installed to store water in Maradhoo, Maradhoo-Feydhoo and Feydhoo.
