Parliament on Monday passed to handover flats to recipients under the Gedhoruveriyaa Scheme without any revisions to the existing list.
The flats were allocated during the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. However, the government of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has halted the process, citing issues and possible corruption in the recipients list.
The ACC has investigated the case and submitted the issues to the government. However, instead of allocating flats, the government set up a committee called the Housing Committee to look into complaints related to the scheme, which is currently in the committee phase.
The matter was submitted to the National Development and Heritage Committee of the Parliament by the public.
The committee summoned then Minister of State for National Planning Housing and Infrastructure Akram Kamaluddin, Senior Executive Director Mohammed Arif, senior officials of the present Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to study the issue.
After the study, the committee submitted a report to the Parliament, which recommended the government to allocate the flats to the selected beneficiaries as soon as possible without any revisions to the list. The names of the recipients of the flats have been announced for many days as it is related to the rights of many people.
The committee's recommendation was passed by 29 out of 36 members present at the time.
