The amendment to the EC rules, which allows people to retire with perks if they have served two terms has been scrapped.
It was introduced as the ninth amendment to the rules on February 28.
According to the amendment, if an employee who has served or is serving in the EC is appointed as a member of the commission and has served the commission for 10 years at the end of his term, he/she shall be entitled to retirement benefits.
As per the amendment, any employee retiring from the service shall be paid their salaries for the amount of years served at EC as a lump sum and a monthly allowance of 75 percent of the person's salary.
The amendment further states that the commission has the right to retire from service and leave the service after an EC employee attains the age of 55 years, but such retirement can be done only if he or she has served the EC for at least 15 years.
As a one-time incentive for every employee who retires in such a way, it has been stated that the salary fixed for the rank of the person and the amount to be multiplied in the year of service should be paid at the same time. But if the person has served more than 15 years in the previous year, then the amount will be considered for 15 years.
Every person retiring from service will be paid 75 percent of the salary fixed for his last rank as retirement pay as compensation for his entire life from month to month. If the service has been completed for 30 years, then the salary of the employee shall be paid as retirement pay.
The amendment also provides for additional hours and other perks for employees and members.
In its notification, the EC said it had revoked the amendment made to the Commission's rules in February and that the amendment was revoked on the directions of the Finance Ministry. Since the salaries and allowances of ec members are decided by parliament, the commission has informed that the rules cannot be amended in such a manner.
