The company formed with a share of the Maldives Correctional Service, Pris Water, has started providing clean water to the inmates in their prisons.
The water plant developed in Maafushi by the company was opened today by the Minister of Home Affairs, Sheikh Imran Abdulla.
Home Ministry said that the project is going to reduce the cost of providing water to the inmates. The Ministry said that the previous daily cost of MVR 84,000 would be reduced to MVR 24,000.
A total of 9 tons of water is required for Maafushi Prison.
Chairman of Pris Water, Abdulla Saeed said that the plant can provide three days of water needed for the prison in one day.
He said that water from the plant would be provided from the plant to all the cells in the Maafushi Prison.
