The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been awarded the contract for the construction of new hospitals in Alifushi, Muli, and Manadhoo.

The projects are valued at MVR 498 million.

State Minister Ahmed Gasim signed the Muli, agreement on behalf of the Ministry of Health while State Minister Ismail Abdullah signed the Manadhoo agreement on behalf of the Ministry, and State Minister Khadija Abdul Samad Abdullah signed the Alifushi agreement on behalf of the Ministry.

MTCC CEO Abdullah Ziyad signed the agreement on behalf of the company.

According to the Health Ministry, a 50-bed hospital will be built in Muli and Manadhoo. The two hospitals were awarded to MTCC for a total cost of MVR 370 million with a two-year deadline.

The 30-bed hospital in Alifushi was awarded to MTCC for MVR 128 million with a two-year deadline.

The Health Ministry said the three hospitals will include a flu clinic and an isolation facility to ensure that the hospital can continue its operations during the spread of diseases such as COVID-19. To reduce the electricity costs of the hospitals, solar PV systems will be installed in each hospital.

In addition, piped oxygen, medical air and suction will be installed in all the beds of the hospitals.
