The Chief of Defense Force, Lieutenant General Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef has received an honorable discharge from military service.
He joined the army on February 18, 1985, and retired at 60 after 39 years of service. According to the Army Act, a soldier can remain in service until the age of 60 years.
Abdul Raheem was given an honorary guard at a ceremony held at the MNDF Headquarters yesterday. Defense Minister Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon attended the ceremony.
At the ceremony, Ghassan presented Abdul Raheem with a letter from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the Commander-in-Chief, and a decoration board symbolizing his sincere service to the military.
Vice Chief of Defense Force, Brigadier General Ibrahim Hilmy also handed over the letter and symbolic card of retirement to Abdul Raheem.
During his service in the Army, he has rendered valuable services in various fields of the Army for the advancement and development of the Army. He has held the posts of Chief of Defense Force, Vice Chief of Defense Force, Commander, Co-Commander and Commander of Area Command of various units of the Army.
He also served as the Army Spokesperson and the Financial Officer of the MNDF.
Abdul Raheem has received 12 medals and 11 colours. He has also served the state for more than 35 years and was awarded the State Service Award in 2021.
