President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said that L. Gan hospital will be developed to incorporate mental medical tourism alongside the development of a mental hospital in the island.

The President made the remarks while speaking to L. Gan residents during his visit to the Atoll, adding that the Administration has plans to develop four tertiary hospitals across the nation.

As such, L. Gan Hospital has been allocated as one of the hospitals to be developed into a tertiary hospital and field work on the project will commence within the year, President Dr. Muizzu said.

"We have begun the process of developing tertiary hospitals across the nation as per our policies," President Dr. Muizzu said.

"Additionally, we will also develop an international mental hospital as per my pledge. Mental health issues need extensive attention in the Maldives. My vision is to incorporate medical tourism into this as well," he said.

He recalled the pledges he made for L. Gan during the presidential elections, stating that the Administration has included the projects as part of their policies. He added that the projects are in different stages of commencement and that he will ensure results.

President Dr. Muizzu added that the development projects in the island will be carried out as per the resident's wishes, and that the most important project among all is the housing project.

"The current housing project with 100 units is not enough to solve the housing issue in the island," President Dr. Muizzu said.

He added that to bring sustainable development, centralisation policies need to be incorporated into housing projects.
