The Administration has stated that they will not create any obstacles for any political events held within the rule of law.

Maldives Police Service earlier on Tuesday night had intervened and interrupted the inaugural meeting of People's National Front - a party formed under the leadership of former president Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

President's Office informed the media that Social Centre had been designated for the inaugural meeting and that it had been communicated with PNF by the Sports Minister. PNF members however gathered at Raalhugandu area to hold the inaugural meeting there.

President's Office released a statement on Tuesday night stating that the Administration will not create any obstacle for any political event held within the rule of law.

"Police had intervened and dispersed a political party meeting scheduled to be held at a private school earlier tonight," the statement said.

The President's Office said that all the schools were preparing for exams and the upcoming academic year. As such, it would be an inconvenience to hold any event at a school, President's Office said.

"The Administration has designation Social Centre's main hall as a venue for the inaugural meeting of People's National Front," PNF said.

President's Office said the Administration has taken the initiative to organise the venue and the setting for the meeting for PNF. Additionally, the President's Office said that the Administration will not intervene in any political event that is held within the rule of law and that the Government will always be supportive of political narratives that are beneficial for the public.
