Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has said that it has not received any information about the delay in repayment of loans taken from China.

Replying to questions from Parliament members at the Parliament's Public Accounts Committee, MMA Deputy Governor Imad Ahmed said that MMA has not received any such information yet.

"We are yet to receive any official information about the restructuring of Chinese loans," Imad said.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who arrived in the Maldives on January 13 after concluding his official visit to China, told reporters at the VIP lounge of Velana International Airport that the country has decided to make it easier to repay Chinese loans.

He said the two countries discussed at the highest level of easing the existing plan or schedule to repay chinese loans.

"When I present this to the Chinese President, he immediately informed the relevant officials in official talks and requested them to send a technical team to the Maldives soon to pay the loans owed to China for the next five years," he said.

He said he would soon send a finance team to study and decide how to repay the loans as easily as possible within five years.

He said that this has been settled and it will bring a lot of relief in the repayment of loans.
