Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to make an official visit to the Maldives next week.

The two-day visit will be Anwar’s first official trip to the Maldives since becoming Prime Minister. It is expected to take place following the BRICS Summit in India.

During the visit, the two sides are expected to discuss ways to further strengthen bilateral relations and sign agreements on cooperation in various areas. The Government has not yet disclosed further details of the visit.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu made an official visit to Malaysia in April last year at Anwar’s invitation. During the visit, the two governments signed several agreements on cooperation and exchanged notes.

The last Malaysian Prime Minister to visit the Maldives was Najib Razak, who visited in 2017 during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen. During that visit, the two countries signed agreements on health and cooperation.
