Former President Abdulla Yameen has said he has no further information about the Green Building fire beyond what has already been made public.

Yameen’s lawyer, Hamza Latheef, stated this in a letter sent to Police Commissioner Ahmed Mohamed yesterday in response to a request for Yameen to provide information to the police investigation.

The letter said the cause of the fire is a matter currently under investigation by the police and that the police would therefore be in a position to determine what caused the incident.

Yameen had previously alleged that the police would know who was responsible for the fire at the former Housing Ministry and how closely the individual was linked to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. President Muizzu has denied the allegations.

Following the allegations, police launched an investigation on the instructions of Home Minister Ali Ihusan and sought Yameen’s attendance at the police station to provide information.

Home Minister Ihusan previously said an investigation conducted with assistance from foreign experts found that the fire was caused by arcing in electrical wiring.
