A mortuary has been opened in Dh. Kudahuvadhoo.

Apart from Male' city, the first mortuary was opened in L. Hithadhoo with the assistance of a businessman.

The mortuary in Dh. Kudahuvadhoo was inaugurated by Local Government Minister Adam Shareef.

The mortuary, built with a funeral home, has the capacity to freeze three bodies at the same time.

Kudahuvadhoo Council President Ibrahim Fikry told 'One' on Thursday that since the island has an airport, it would be easier to transport bodies from the resorts back to Male' after storing in the mortuary in the future.

Fikry said that under the Council's policy, land is given out under CSR for development in a way that benefits the island. He added that the mortuary was built under such an initiative as well.

"We asked Bright Brothers who operate a fuel station in the island to do something under CSR when we renewed their lease. They built the mortuary under that," Fikry said.

He added that the mortuary cost MVR 350,000 to built.

Fikry further added that with the mortuary service, bodies from nearby islands can be transported to Male' city with ease as well. Fikry said that the mortuary service will add to the development of the island as well.

Mortuary in Galholhu Sahara can store up to 12 bodies at a time. Additionally, Addu Equatorial Hospital also has a facility to store bodies as well.
