Civil Court has denied MP Abdulla Jabir's petition to issue a restraining order on MDP's Kaashidhoo constituency ticket.

Jabir, who had won MDP primary for the Kaashidhoo constituency, had his ticket recalled over his repetitive use of offensive language towards public. He was also expelled from MDP over his actions.

"Since this is an act which is prejudicial to the interests of this party and the general members of the party, the disciplinary committee has decided not to allow Abdulla Jabir to contest the 20th parliamentary elections on behalf of this party and remove him from the party membership," MDP said in an earlier statement.

MDP has since given the ticket to lawyer and former Under-Secretary at the President's Office Abdulla Naseer.

Jabir's petition to the Civil Court stated that MDP's action was an infringement on Jabir's electoral rights. He appealed the Civil Court to order MDP to cancel Naseer's ticket.

Jabir has also sought an interim injunction against MDP seeking compensation for his losses and appealing a stay order on Kaashidhoo constituency ticket until the issue is resolved.

In its verdict, the Civil Court said that since the Election Commission has completed the candidacy of the candidates for the parliamentary elections and the EC is not the respondent of the charge sheet, the condition of temporary appeal sought by Jabir in the case cannot be granted at this stage.
