ITurkey's Baykar developed the Bayraktar TB2 in 2014.

Bayraktar TB2 holds the record in the Turkish aviation history for endurance with 27 hours 3 minutes and an altitude of 25.030ft.

The drone, with state-of-the-art military and communication equipment, has a full automated and communication services range of up to 300 km. It also has the capability to deploy laser-guided missiles. The drone has a payload capacity of 150 kg.

Capable of carrying out surgical precision strikes, the drone will be operated by a special team of MNDF.

While this is the beginning of the service, the government aims to introduce manned and unmanned systems into the armed forces' service and develop the army's air services to the extent that the state is capable of.

"The establishment of air services will enable the State to discharge its duties and responsibilities in case of incidents in the territorial waters of the Maldives," MNDF said.

It will also enable the Maldives to play a more meaningful role in working closely with the Indian Ocean countries and other countries operating in the Indian Ocean to ensure the safety and security of the Indian Ocean.
