President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that he wants to strengthen the pension fund utilise it in a way that benefits the people.

The President made the remark while answering a question a member of the public on 'Raees ge Javaabu' program whether the amount deducted from salary to pension could be made available to the recipient upon leaving their jobs.

President Dr. Muizzu said since pension is being levied under the law, any change in pension can be made by Parliament.

"Pension is levied under a particular law and the government can change it only by amending the law. I also want to strengthen the pension scheme so that people get the best out of it. Any changes can be made only when it is tabled in parliament. Therefore, the possibility of bringing in amendments like the one you said in parliament is the way to do what you said," he said.

He said he accepted concerns over non-availability of pension money from where he left his job.

He also wants to ensure that the pension money is utilised, he said.
