The Parliament has all the powers to make laws and it can make laws contrary to the decisions of the Supreme Court and any other court, Kendhoo Constituency MP Ali Hussain has said.
Speaking at the debate on the motion to dissolve the clause of counting the quorum of parliamentary sessions without including the vacant seats after the Supreme Court ruled it unlawful, MP Ali Hussain said he does not know how to proceed with counting something that isn't, as something that is.
However, the Parliament will have the power to pass a law contrary to the court's interpretation, he said.
Some people think that if the Supreme Court makes a judgment and order, it will bind the Parliament forever, he said. Some of the administrative staff of the parliamentary committees also believe that, and the parliament should always follow it. They believe that parliament cannot pass a law to the contrary, he said.
However, the Parliament is the legislative body and all legislative powers belong to the Parliament. The power to make rules actually belongs to the Parliament, he said.
