Preliminary design and survey of the bridge connecting Addu Hulhumedhoo and Hulhudhoo has been completed.
The Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure posted on X that the survey of Addu bridge was completed on Wednesday.
The Ministry of Construction had entrusted the preliminary design and survey of the bridge connecting Hulhumedhoo and Hulhudhoo to The Arab Contractors, an Egyptian company.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu handed over the project to the company at a meeting held last month to meet the people of Hulhumedhoo.
On the same day, Construction Minister Dr. Abdulla Mutthalib had said that the length of Addu bridge will be 14 kilometers.
At an earlier press conference held by the President's Office, Principal Secretary to the President on Public Policy Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim said Arab Contractors had expressed interest in providing free survey work on the bridge.
Although Arab Contractors provided the work free of cost, the parliament in this year's budget allocated MVR 30 million for the survey work of Addu bridge.
The construction of a bridge between Hulhumedhoo and Hulhudhoo was a presidential promise of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who had earlier stated that some people had shown interest in the construction of the bridge and that The Arab Contractors Company had informed the government that the feasibility of the bridge would be done free of cost.
President Muizzu has also included the work required for the bridge project within 14 weeks.
