Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has been appointed as an advisor to the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
MDP Deputy Chairman Ibrahim Waheed told "One" today that President Solih, was appointed as an advisor to the MDP on the 20th of this month.
President Solih was most recently the interim president of the party. He was appointed to the post on November 24 at the MDP National Assembly session. The post of MDP President became vacant after the incumbent, Mohamed Nasheed, left the party.
Former Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid has been elected as the MDP President without an election.
Solih, when he was the President, was the most senior leader of the MDP. According to the party's constitution, a member of the party, if he is in the position of President, is the party's senior leader.
Speaking at the launch of MDP's parliamentary campaign at Artificial Beach yesterday, Solih said he would always be in the leadership of the party. He said he would be ready to overcome all the difficulties faced by the MDP and reorganize the party.
