The right to housing of those who do not qualify for flats under the "Gedhoruveriyaa" scheme launched by former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's government will be protected, President Mohamed Muizzu has said.
The President answered questions from the public directly at a forum held at Sultan Park yesterday. He said the government will implement housing projects this year. He said the government has decided to set up a committee comprising of people who have the trust of the public to look into the flat issues.
"For example, the worst case of those who were determined not to get flats this time after our committee looked into them. We will not allow that person to lose their rights. We have many housing projects to begin, even during this year," he stated.
No citizen should lose their home, he said. Those who are eligible for the flat on the first list of the "Gedhoruveriyaa" scheme but are not eligible on the later list will also get opportunities under the government's upcoming housing project, he said.
During the administration of former President Abdullah Yameen, the names of some people who were declared eligible for the Hiyaa flats were removed from the list of eligible people, he said. The government will soon launch a social housing project to provide opportunities to those who have been deprived, he said.
No Maldivian citizen should live without housing and the government will ensure housing for all the people, he said.
