Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has said that the 'Gedhoruveriya' scheme list circulating on social media was not issued by the Commission.

In a press release issued on Sunday, ACC said that the information regarding the investigation conducted by the ACC in the flat case has been shared only with the Ministry of Housing and the Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions.

"In the case of allotment of flats under the 'Gedhoruveriya' scheme, which is being investigated by this Commission, a list is being circulated on social media which was not prepared by this Commission," the agency said.

ACC said it is concerning that such baseless rumours are being spread to mislead the public in a sensitive matter involving the people.

The commission further said there is no influence on ACC in the investigation.

The Housing Ministry said in a statement on Saturday night that it had received a list of forms that had failed to meet the criteria and found any further problem after an inquiry conducted by the ACC into the allotment of flats under the housing scheme.

"Since the forms in the list sent by the ACC are based solely on the information obtained for the purpose of investigation, the Ministry is making arrangements to identify beneficiaries under the 'Gedhoruveriya' scheme," the Ministry said.

Housing Minister Dr Ali Haider has said that efforts will be made to hand over the flats of eligible beneficiaries at the earliest for the flats allotted under the 'Gedhoruveriya' scheme.

After allegations of irregularities by the previous government in the allotment of flats came to light, the ACC launched an inquiry asking the government to stop the allotment of the flats. Following the inquiry, the commission found that 60 percent of those who were declared eligible for the first 4,000 flats allotted under the housing scheme did not meet the criteria.
