President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu will deliver his first presidential address tomorrow.
The Parliament has scheduled two sessions tomorrow — the first for the presidential address and the second sitting of the first session of the current year.
The President will deliver the presidential address at the first sitting of the first session of the parliament to be held at 0900hrs tomorrow. Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Aslam will inaugurate the session, followed by a request to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to deliver the presidential address.
This is a statement that the President is obliged to make under Article 84 of the Constitution in order to open parliament every year.
Article 84 of the Constitution states that every year, in the first sitting of the first session of parliament, the President shall make a presidential statement explaining the situation in the country and outlining the policies that need to be taken to improve the situation of the country.
Once the President delivers his presidential address, the Speaker will conclude the session.
According to parliamentary rules, the leader of the opposition in the house will have to respond to the president's presidential address in parliament.
As a second session of parliament, the second session of the first session of parliament will be held at 1400hrs tomorrow, with two issues on the agenda.
This includes the first reading of a resolution moved by former Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Eva Abdulla on the issue of the re-appointment of the cabinet ministers rejected by Parliament to the same posts by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and debate on the bill introduced by Mohamed Shifau. MP Shifau's bill calls to change the Parliamentary election dates which are currently set for March 17.
