Indian Coast Guard has boarded a Maldivian fishing vessel once again.
The Indian Coast Guard ship boarded Maldivian fishing boats inside Maldives' Special Economic Zone (SEZ) on Wednesday and Thursday night, the MNDF said.
The Bodukanneli Fishermen's Union said an Indian ship approached the boat at around midnight on Thursday and threatened the fishermen.
The owner of the boat has reported the incident to the MNDF.
In light of these events, the union had called on all relevant authorities to ensure the safety and security of Maldivian fishermen inside Maldivian waters.
Indian Coast Guard troops have boarded the boat before. It was late last Wednesday afternoon. On that day, they boarded three vessels of Maldivian fishermen.
The Maldivian government yesterday had formally asked the Indian government to provide information on the operation conducted by the Indian Coast Guard in Maldivian waters in connection with these issues.
The Defense Ministry said in a statement yesterday that the boarding teams of Indian Coast Guard Ship 246 and Indian Coast Guard Ship 253 boarded the fishing boats.
The statement added that the MNDF will continue to protect the Special Economic Zone of the Maldives.
