The Election Commission (EC) has announced the details of the polling stations and places where ballot boxes will be placed in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
The Election Commission today gazetted the details of the polling stations, the number of ballot boxes, the code of the ballot boxes, and the details of the polling area. The details of the polling stations in different areas have been gazetted separately. A total of 608 ballot boxes will be set up for the election.
Ballot Box Composition:
- Male' City: 181 boxes
- Hulhumale': 50 boxes
- Villimale': 9 boxes
- Atolls: 319 boxes
- Overseas: 6 boxes
- Resorts: 37 boxes
- Prisons: 5 boxes
- Industrial: 1 box
EC Vice President Ismail Habib said in a post on X that the figures are likely to change after the re-registration process.
To quickly determine which polling station you are going to vote in, you can call or send an SMS to the commission's hotline 1414, Habib said. The SMS is sent by entering VR (space) ID number.
Re-registration is now open and must be submitted by the 7th of this month. Re-register online, via https://form.elections.gov.mv.
Five institutions signed yesterday to arrange various arrangements for the parliamentary elections. The signatures were signed with the Civil Service Commission, Maldives Police Service, Department of National Registration, Maldives Post and Local Government Authority.
Speaking at the signing ceremony with the institutions yesterday, EC Chairman Fuwad Thaufeeq said some members of Parliament have informed him that they are working to make necessary changes in the law to postpone the parliamentary elections. If the date is postponed, re-registration will be reopened.
The parliamentary elections are now scheduled for March 17. The day coincides with the 7th of Ramadan.
