MDP members have filed a case after receiving death threats.

MDP spokesman Anas Abdul Sattar told One that some of the lawmakers received death threats on Sunday night. Kendhikulhudhoo MP Ahmed Easa and his family were threatened with death, Anas said.

He added that other members have also received death threats and their families have also been threatened with death.

"The meeting was held at 2000hrs last night. Before that, I received a call from an unknown number and the person threatened to kill me if I went to the meeting or left the house. Some members were threatened that their families would also be killed," Anas said.

Anas said the matter has now been lodged with the police and the number of people who had called the members and issued death threats has also been submitted to the police, adding that he has contacted Commissioner of Police (CP) Ali Shujau and requested him to beef up the security of the members.

Anas further said that if there is anything related to the members, it will also be looked into by the Parliament and the matter has not been taken up in parliament.

The death threats were issued to the MPs after the party decided not to approve some of the ministers, MDP said. During yesterday's session, a scuffle broke out between the members over the vote to approve the ministers.
