Attorney General Ahmed Usham has said that The Democrats decision not to approve him for the post was personal discrimination.

Usham told 'One' that The Democrats were trying illegally inside parliament to not approve some ministers and that The Democrats decided not to approve him because of some of the work that took place in parliament when he was a member of parliament. The decision to not approve him was not because of lack of ability to become attorney general, he said.

"It's not because I am not able to perform my duties or not fit for the post. I think it's because of some of the work I did when I was a member. That's why they do not want to approve me as Attorney General. We have received information that there are certain issues related to the then Speaker of parliament Mohamed Nasheed," Usham said.

He said that as Attorney General, everything was being done in accordance with the law. The laws and regulations of parliament have laid down how to deal with the approval of ministers.

At a meeting held on Sunday, MDP's parliamentary group decided not to approve Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed, Attorney General Ahmed Usham and Housing Minister Dr. Ali Haider.

While MDP has decided not to approve Usham, Islamic Minister Shaheem and Housing Minister Haider, The Democrats have also decided not to approve Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer, while the party has decided not to approve Saeed.

Government members disrupted the proceedings of the Parliament on Sunday over the approval of the ministers, and also disrupted the proceedings of the evening.
