The President's Office has revealed that Ooredoo Maldives has decided to provide MVR 100 million for the construction of thalassemia hospital.
Speaking at a press conference held at the President's Office today, Principal Secretary to the President on Public Policy Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim said that the Cabinet has approved Ooredoo to pay a total of 6 percent with five out of Ooredoo's total revenue and one additional percent on the condition that the information technology sector will flourish in the Maldives.
Nazim, however, said the Economic Council discussed Ooredoo's proposals and decided to pay 5 per cent of the revenue and increase it to MVR 200 million from MVR 100 million paid to the government as advance tax line and pay it to the government in one go.
Nazim said that in return, Ooredoo would have to pay MVR 100 crore for the construction of the thalassemia hospital.
The cabinet had earlier decided to build a dedicated thalassemia hospital. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu had promised to build a thalassemia centre in Hulhumale' during the presidential campaign.
