STELCO has said the Company plans to start providing battery-powered energy to at least five islands by the end of this year.
Speaking at the 74th anniversary of the launch of electricity services in the Maldives last night along with the company's board, management and employees, STELCO's Managing Director (MD) Hussain Fahmy said STELCO has made remarkable achievements in generating and utilizing renewable energy to achieve the government's goal of making the country a carbon neutral country by 2030.
Fahmy said that STELCO has started generating sufficient renewable energy in at least five of the islands in K. Atoll, A. Atoll and V. Atoll and is preparing to start providing at least 12 hours of battering electricity by the end of this year.
He further said that as part of STELCO's sixth power development project to increase STELCO's capacity to match the demand for electricity in the Greater Male' Region, the generators to be added to the region will be hybrid generators that can be operated not only in diesel but also in other ways.
