President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has decided to open the PPM/PNC primary for all those who submitted their names.
PPM/PNC yesterday canceled the forms of many people who applied to contest the parliamentary primary on charges of creating sedition within the party and other reasons. Members of both parties were angry with the leadership and some members went to the PNC office today.
"PPM/PNC has decided to hold the primary for all candidates after taking into consideration the complaints after some of the nominees were not allowed to contest," PNC chairman Abdul Raheem Abdulla posted on X in a statement.
The PPM/PNC primary was originally scheduled for 20th of this month. However, the primary is now scheduled for next Saturday.
According to the rules of PPM/PNC parliamentary primary, candidates must meet three conditions. They must be on the register of one of the two parties in the coalition as of October 10, have not taken any steps to prevent them from contesting the election and meet the requirements of the Constitution and laws.
In addition to the requirements, the rule also includes considerations in meeting the requirements. These include being a person of reputation and integrity, experience in parliament and special parliament, familiarity with laws and the Constitution and service to the party.
After considering all these factors, the coalition leadership will decide whether the candidates meet the requirements to contest the primary.
