Transport Ministry and Health Ministry have commenced sea ambulance service between Male' and Villimale'.

The service was launched by Health Minister Dr. Abdulla Khalil, Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen and Chief Executive Officer of Dharumavantha Hospital Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem.

Dr. Abdulla Khalil signed the agreement on behalf of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare while CEO of Dharumavantha Hospital Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem signed the agreement on behalf of Dharumavantha hospital.

Speaking on the occasion, CEO of Dharumavantha Hospital Haleem said that the main objective of the sea ambulance service launched today is to provide a quick service where critical patients can be taken to Dharumavantha Hospital with ease.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Khalil said that the service was launched to make it easier for the service seekers from Villimale'.

"As luck would have it, we got a much better, bigger, more service-wide launch than what is currently being used as sea ambulances in the country," Minister Khalil said.

The sea ambulance service will be operated 24-hours by Villimale' Hospital and Dharumavantha Hospital.

When sea ambulance services were started, the government had planned to build a 100-bed tertiary hospital in Villimale'. The government had announced it last month and is in the process of allocating funds for the hospital.
