According to data released by Aasandha, the highest number of patients have been treated for heart disease in the past three years.

Speaking at a press conference held today, Aasandha Managing Director Aminath Zeeniya shared the study and statistics used to start the medical check-up service. She added that the tests included in the check-up have been based on the highest number of treatments received by Maldivians in the last three years.

As per the data, patients received the most treatment for the following:

  • Heart disease and blood vessel-related diseases (cholesterol, high blood pressure and stroke) – 57,709 tests
  • Lung-related ailments - 35,806 tests
  • Diabetes - 30,803 tests
  • Kidney-related ailments - 11,635 tests
  • Cancer diseases — 3,294 tests

Zeeniya said that under the new medical check-up service, tests for such diseases will be conducted via blood tests, urine tests and bowel system tests.

She added that medical check-up tests will be done in packages and they will be made on age-wise basis.

The medical check-up service that commenced today will be for patients aged 50 years and above. The check-up will commence for patients aged between 35-49 years in April whereas check-ups for and patients aged 19-35 years of age will be rolled out in July.
