Aasandha has announced that prescriptions can only be filled at pharmacies based on the medicine brands highlighted by the doctors.
In a statement issued on Thursday evening, Aasandha said that while doctors prescribe medicine under the Aasandha scheme, if the patient is to be given a particular brand of medicine, the doctors should highlight no substitution for the drug during the medication instruction.
"If a doctor prescribes a certain brand for the patient and highlights it in the instructions, the pharmacy should only release that particular medicine to the patient. If the medicine mentioned in the prescription is unavailable, it should be communicated to the patient", Aasandha said.
Aasandha said that if the doctor did not write to mention a particular brand in the medication instruction, the pharmacy should bill for the brand issued to the patient by the pharmacy, and in cases where the doctor wants to release a particular brand, the patient should approach the doctor to change the brand if it is not available at that time from any of the pharmacies.
Aasandha said that in cases where the doctor wants to release a particular brand of medicine, if the pharmacy issues another brand to the patient, such transactions will be rejected from Sunday.
