Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has warned to be cautious against counterfeit USD 100 notes.
The MMA said in a statement today that the notes in circulation were printed between 1996 and 2016 and contained white borders.
The most notable features of the counterfeit notes are:
- Printed on paper different from the authentic note
- When the note is exposed to the light, the watermark with the Benjamin Franklin photograph on the left side of the note is different from the authentic note
- The security stripe "USA 100" on the left side of the note is not visible on both sides of the note
- The security stripe that should be on the note when exposed to ultra violet light is not illuminated on both sides of the note
- Lack of security fibers that should make the face of the note glow red and blue when exposed to ultra violet light
- The face value included below on the left side of the note does not change color when the note is tilted
The MMA has asked the public to be cautious in accepting such counterfeit notes and if any notes are found in doubt, they should be brought to the authority to verify the authenticity of the notes.
